Vintage Vermont LICENSE PLATES FOR SALE LINK plus Best Old Plates

Best Antique Vermont license plates: Porcelain Vermont license plates offer a lesson in anachronism. Today, plates are manufactured cheaply, covered with waterproof plastic sheeting, and are expected to last a decade or more. But in Vermont, big beautiful license plates were issued annually for seven years in a row, all in porcelain, all individually dated, and all with the identical color scheme. The first of these replaced an undated 1907-1908 issue which...you guessed it, had the same black-on-white format. At a distance of several dozen yards, (and surrounded by everything covered in snow!), how were Vermont's law enforcement officials sure with a passing glance that all these white tags were valid? This is why we nominate the non-passenger "T"-prefix green and school bus orange tags as the best of the, (ahem, obtainable) old Vermont plates. It is generally thought that these undated porcelain plates were issued in 1918, three years after the last black on white porcelain. Some license plate collectors will tell you that these are out-of-state resident "Tourist" tags; others believe they are "Temporary" dealer plates, while others still regard them as being used for multi-year tractors or solid-tire vehicles. This is part of what makes them so much fun.

Best of the "Not-so- Old Vermont license plates: There was no 1936 Vermont license plate, but the one following the 1935 read, "Vermont expires March 31, 1937." Motorists complained, as it implied that Vermont itself would expire on that date! To fix this misconception, the next plate issued read, "Vermont to Apr. 1, 1938" -- and folks didn't like that either, even though any perceivable implication to April Fools Day was rather abstract, and a bit of a stretch. Some claim that this discord was enough for Vermont put aside its famous frugality, because they actually bore the expense of issuing a second plate for remainder of 1938. Vermont never issued another mid-year plate again, at least not one with an embossed date. Toughest/Most Rare Vermont plates: There's only one that truly qualifies as "rare": The Vermont Automobile Register, Vermont's first issue, undated 1905 - 1906 license plate. Next, (way, way next) comes the undated 1907 - 1908 plate; however, some collectors claim that the 1909 license plate is rarer than the second issue, simply because it was issued for two years.
